I’ve been blessed with being able to write songs and create glorified demos with limited tech and non-existent funding. I’ve learned so much playing with The Aerolites with their amazing songwriting and I continue to learn and grow from them as well as having the opportunity to play with Merther with all of their amazing songs has been a really fun and productive musical year! I am a part of a community of amazing songwriters from Vermont to Maine and I’m blown away and inspired by them and I think you can hear it here! This last batch of songs was guided by a higher power and knowing how that sounds I don’t say that lightly! Time is a theme throughout as well as love and the constant betrayal from our ruling class!
I recorded this with noisy electricity and untreated rooms and cheap equipment but with the help of some great musicians I think I made it sound fairly decent. It’s a challenge that I would prefer to do in a real studio with treated rooms and a Neve or SSL board and outboard gear that makes whatever you record sound amazing even before you do any processing! Someday perhaps, I could work and thrive in such a place!
I have to thank the great ether for providing me with these bass lines and melodies and especially the lyrics that I truly struggle with. AI is nothing compared to the great ether! Some of these songs came to me during times of self doubt and feeling like everything I do is meaningless or worthless while living in a meaningless and worthless corporate society! These songs birthed themselves out of that struggle! Like it Matters, Sake of the Song, The Reminder and Goodbye and Goodnight are these songs and I can’t believe I wrote them! The album opens with chaos reflecting the way life has been in the last few years and settles into the next song feeling the way the future has to be!
On the carefree side of things I wrote 2 songs immediately after playing festival gigs in summer 2022! It’s a pleasure to know you is the first and it was inspired by a star in the sky that followed me around the stage when I was packing equipment into my car and my band witnessed this event so I had to write a song about it and I did! The second is Skya and that was inspired by a beautiful festival I was lucky enough to play called Sky Fest and it was a magical night not only for the set I played but the headliner Sky Foot filled the environment up with beauty and caring that I will never forget! The only thing I could do was craft this song and it happened in minutes! Another fun one is The Totido Dosey Doe and I’ll let you all discover that theme on your own! Gotta Keep Your Heart Open In Hell and It’s Just That Easy are improv jams with Adam Carson on the drums and they were crafted in the moment. Just bass, Drums and Vocals! Tin Machine and Days Roll By are older songs that my friends and fam may be familiar with! The themes of It’s Just That Easy and The Comerican Blues were inspired by comedic truth teller and America’s comedian Kurt Metzger!
